What is inside

SheetWhat it does
SummaryClient, period and goal; eight headline numbers for this period and the previous one. Change and engagement rate are calculated.
By networkPosts, impressions, reach, engagements, clicks and followers per network, with engagement rate and totals (reach is deliberately not totalled).
Top postsYour best posts with an engagement rate and a “why it worked” column.
Next monthWhat you learned, what you will do and what you need from the client.

Engagement rate in this template is engagements divided by impressions. If you report against followers or reach instead, change the formula and say so in the report.

Filling it in

  1. Fill the shaded cells on the Summary sheet; leave a cell blank when a network does not report a number, and the change column stays blank instead of showing an error.
  2. Complete the per-network sheet from each network’s numbers.
  3. Pick three to five top posts and write one sentence on why each worked.
  4. Finish with next month’s plan. A report that ends with actions gets read.

With PostRoost

PostRoost’s post engagement report shows these numbers per account with the previous period alongside, and Export CSV gives you the totals and every post for the date range you choose, ready to paste into this template. See analytics.

Frequently asked questions

10 questions

What does the report template include?

A Summary of headline numbers against the previous period, a By network sheet with engagement rates, a Top posts sheet and a Next month page.

Which engagement rate does it use?

Engagements divided by impressions. If you report against followers or reach, change the formula and say so in the report.

Why is reach not totalled across networks?

Reach counts unique accounts, and the same person can be reached on several networks, so adding reach up would overstate it.

What if a network does not report a number?

Leave the cell blank. The change column stays blank instead of showing an error.

How many top posts should I include?

Three to five, each with one sentence on why it worked. More than that turns into a list nobody reads.

Can I use it for weekly reports?

Yes. Set the period on the Summary sheet; keep the comparison to the previous period of the same length.

Does it work in Google Sheets?

Yes. Upload it to Google Drive and open it with Google Sheets; the formulas carry over.

Can I fill it from PostRoost?

Yes. From the Essentials plan, the post engagement report shows these numbers per account, and Export CSV gives totals and every post for the date range, ready to paste in.

Should I send the spreadsheet itself to clients?

Many agencies paste the Summary and Next month pages into a short document or slide. Keep the spreadsheet as your working file.

Can I add my agency's branding?

Yes. Change the colours and fonts and add your logo; the formulas do not depend on the formatting.
