Meta app with the Instagram API. While the app is unpublished, each account must be added as an Instagram Tester and accept the invite.
Limitations to know about
Links in Instagram captions are never clickable; PostRoost writes the link as plain text and the AI drafter suggests “link in bio”.
Uploaded images are converted to JPEG, because Instagram accepts no other image format through the API.
Stories are not supported.
Instagram login tokens last 60 days; the scheduler refreshes them automatically before they expire.
Two ways to connect
Instagram login: any Business or Creator account, signing in with the Instagram username and password. No Facebook Page needed.
Through a Facebook Page: for Instagram accounts linked to a Page you manage; sign in with Facebook and pick the Page.
Personal Instagram accounts cannot be connected; switch the account to Business or Creator in the Instagram app first (it is free).
How PostRoost publishes to Instagram
One image publishes as a photo post, one video as a Reel, and two to ten items as a carousel. Instagram processes each item after it fetches it; PostRoost waits for Instagram to finish before publishing, so a slow video does not fail the post. Instagram’s own rules allow at most 30 hashtags and 20 @ tags in a caption, which our character counter checks for you.
Frequently asked questions
10 questions
Can I connect a personal Instagram account?
No. Instagram only lets tools publish to professional accounts. Switching an account to Business or Creator is free in the Instagram app.
Do I need a Facebook Page to connect Instagram?
No. Instagram login connects any Business or Creator account directly. If the account is linked to a Page you manage, you can connect it through the Page instead.
Which Instagram formats can I schedule?
One image publishes as a photo post, one video as a Reel, and two to ten items as a carousel. Instagram Stories are not supported.
Can Instagram captions include clickable links?
No. Instagram does not make caption links clickable, so PostRoost shows the link as plain text. The writing assistant suggests "link in bio" wording instead.
How many hashtags and tags can a caption have?
Instagram allows at most 30 hashtags and 20 @ tags, within 2,200 characters. The Instagram tab in the composer and our character counter check all three.
Can I put hashtags in the first comment instead?
Yes. Add a first comment and PostRoost posts it straight after the post, which keeps the caption clean. First comments are included from the Essentials plan.
What happens to the images I upload?
Instagram only accepts JPEG photos, so uploaded images are converted to JPEG, rotated the right way up and capped at 2160 pixels. Videos are stored as they are.
Will a slow video make the post fail?
No. Instagram processes each item after fetching it, and PostRoost waits for Instagram to finish before publishing the post.
Which Instagram numbers come back?
Followers, plus views, reach, likes, comments, shares and saves per post. Likes and comments are also read from the post itself, so they show even when Instagram's insights lag.
Do I need to reconnect Instagram every few months?
Normally not. Instagram login tokens last 60 days and PostRoost refreshes them before they expire. If access is revoked, reconnect the account under Accounts & settings; its history is kept.
