Before your team can connect
Google Cloud project with the YouTube Data API. Google must verify the app for the upload permission before people outside the test list can connect.
Limitations to know about
The default API quota is 10,000 units a day, which is roughly six uploads for the whole deployment; real volume needs a quota increase from Google.
Shorts-specific settings and subscriber counts are not part of the adapter.
How a post becomes a video
YouTube posts need a video. The first line of the caption becomes the title (YouTube allows 100 characters) and the whole caption becomes the description (up to 5,000 bytes; YouTube does not allow the characters < and >). PostRoost streams the video to YouTube at the scheduled time.
Limits that come from Google
Google must verify the app before people outside its test list can grant upload permission.
The YouTube Data API has a daily quota, 10,000 units by default, and each upload uses a large share of it: roughly six uploads a day for a whole deployment until Google raises the quota. High-volume video schedules need that increase first.
Shorts-specific settings and channel subscriber counts are not supported.
Frequently asked questions
10 questions
Does every YouTube post need a video?
Yes. A post for YouTube must include a video; text or image-only posts cannot go to YouTube.
Where do the title and description come from?
The first line of the caption becomes the title (up to 100 characters) and the whole caption becomes the description.
What are the description limits?
Up to 5,000 bytes, and YouTube does not allow angle brackets. Accented letters and emoji use more than one byte each; our character counter shows the byte count.
How many videos can be uploaded a day?
The YouTube Data API's default quota of 10,000 units a day covers roughly six uploads for a whole deployment. Higher-volume schedules need Google to raise the quota first.
Why does Google have to verify the app?
Uploading is a sensitive permission, so Google must verify the app before people outside its test list can grant it.
Are scheduled videos public?
Yes. PostRoost uploads the video at the scheduled time and publishes it as public.
Can I upload Shorts?
You can upload a short vertical video like any other video, but Shorts-specific settings are not supported.
Can I set a thumbnail or playlist?
Not from PostRoost. It sets the title and description; add a custom thumbnail, playlist or end screen in YouTube Studio after the upload.
How does the video get to YouTube?
Upload the file in the composer (once media storage is configured; up to 300 MB) or paste a direct link to the file. At the scheduled time PostRoost streams it to YouTube.
Which numbers come back from YouTube?
Views, likes and comments per video. Channel subscriber counts are not collected.
