Before your team can connect

LinkedIn developer app with “Share on LinkedIn” and “Sign In with LinkedIn using OpenID Connect” (self-serve). Company Pages need the Community Management API, which LinkedIn grants after a review.

Limitations to know about

  • Video upload is not part of the current LinkedIn adapter.
  • Until the Community Management API is approved, connections post to the member's own profile and show no numbers.

Profiles and Company Pages

LinkedIn treats the two very differently for third-party tools. Posting to your own profile is available to any LinkedIn developer app. Posting to Company Pages, and reading any post analytics, needs LinkedIn’s Community Management API, which LinkedIn grants only after reviewing the app. Until that approval is in place for a PostRoost deployment, connections post to the signed-in member’s profile and show no numbers; the post page says so and links to the live post.

Writing for LinkedIn

You have 3,000 characters, and the first two lines decide whether anyone expands the post. Put the point first, use short paragraphs, and keep hashtags to a few. A link without images becomes an article card.

Frequently asked questions

10 questions

Can PostRoost post to LinkedIn Company Pages?

Yes, once LinkedIn has approved the deployment for its Community Management API. Until then, connections post to the signed-in member's own profile.

Who can connect a Company Page?

A LinkedIn member with an administrator role on the Page. After Company Page access is approved, the Pages they administer are listed when they sign in.

Why are there no numbers for my profile posts?

LinkedIn restricts personal-profile post analytics to approved partners. PostRoost shows numbers for Company Pages only; for profile posts the post page says so and links to the live post.

What can I publish to LinkedIn?

Text posts, posts with a link, and posts with up to 9 images. A link on a post without images becomes an article card.

How long can a LinkedIn post be?

The composer allows 3,000 characters. Only the first lines show before "see more", so put the point at the start.

Can I schedule a first comment on LinkedIn?

No. First comments are available on Instagram, Facebook and X only. On LinkedIn, put the link in the post, where it becomes a card when there are no images.

Which Company Page numbers come back?

Follower counts, and per post impressions, unique impressions, clicks, shares, likes and comments, as far as LinkedIn returns them.

How many hashtags should a LinkedIn post have?

Two or three relevant ones usually read better than a long list. The writing assistant uses hashtags lightly when it drafts for LinkedIn.

Do LinkedIn connections expire?

LinkedIn access tokens expire, and PostRoost refreshes them when LinkedIn has issued a refresh token. If one cannot be refreshed, reconnect the account under Accounts & settings; its post history stays.

Can I post the same update to a Page and a profile?

Yes, if both are connected: tick both accounts and the post goes to each. Consider changing the wording in one, since followers of both will see it twice.
